Black Swans of a Different Kind Hover

Terrorists don’t need “dirty bomb” delivery since radio-active devices were planted back in the 60's and 70's, and subversive agents have been allowed to immigrate ever since. Drone reconnaissance technology, which has matured in the last two years, gives extremists the means to wreck havoc on major population centers.

Proliferation of atomic plants in 3rd-world countries is no longer the only issue. Building of new nuclear plants in China, Japan and Uk plus refurbishment of aged plants in some “enlightened" western countries, plus stalling research on solutions to radio-active waste stockpiling are criminal. Read what is unfolding in France:

The attack on the Twin Towers was miniscule compared to the havoc now being planned. If the shut-down of air traffic upon destruction of the towers was deemed necessary, then current threats call for proaction on a much greater scale.

Fast-tracking of LENR-fuelled power plants combined with quick decommissioning of nuclear plants and a cutoff of funding for fission research are the new priorities. Meanwhile, detection and destruction of drone launch sites near all atomic plants are crucial.

Exploration of space can be put on hold while an international Manhattan-sized project is deployed.

Unfortunately, the UN and western leaders fiddle while the public dozes -and terrorists play with drones.

LENR -Black Swan Ascending

Most of us know that Bill Gates, the philanthropist, is active in improving the health of the world’s impoverished. To further his cause, he is currently expanding his knowledge of research in the LENR/Cold Fusion field.
While we await Industrial Heat’s disclosure of the location and name of the owner of the first industrial plant to operate a production E-cat, let’s take a time-out to read Bill Gate’s 2011 book review of “The Black Swan The impact of the highly improbable,” by author Nassim Nicholas Taleb.
http://www.gatesnotes.com/Books/The-Black-Swan
Back in 2011, Mr. Gates observed, “We restrict our thinking to the irrelevant and inconsequential, while large events continue to surprise and shape our word.” Still, sages in academia and journalism cannot be expected to identify and warn us about all unexpected and low-probability events. Nor, should they ignore or under-report when the unexpected becomes obvious.

As a follow-through, read a timely essay by Russ George, (one of the early experimenters in Cold Fusion) which provides a unique perspective on the still evolving LENR research saga.

An ideal birthday or graduation gift for rising intellectuals in your family is Taleb’s tale of Black Swans.

None of us have an infallible gift of foresight. The best we can do is be curious about research, monitor that which might impact us, and join in the advocacy should a beneficial black swan lift off.

Honk in unison with the black bird as it leads the V-formation over the horizon.

Dirty Tricks Playbook in Oil Patch

Resolution of the world's environmental, health and security issues, boils down to implementing affordable, clean, reliable and safe energy production. Such criteria, does not accommodate the present coal, nuclear, natural gas and petroleum fuel mix -diluted slightly by renewables.

Nuclear and fossil fuels may stave off freezing and famine to some extent, but never have they reduced environmental disasters or wars.
Needed more than the hyperbole of Al Gore is thoughtful discourse and the fast-tracking of LENR-type distributed energy

Greenpeace and UN agencies as well as mainline media and science/technology journals are not up to the task of helping reduce the adverse global impacts of nuclear fission and fossil fuels.

Both citizen bloggers and professional journalists should stress viable energy solutions, and educate politicians & public about emerging opportunities presented by Low Energy Nuclear Reactors (LENR).
Yes, and expose those engaging in manipulation of the facts. See expose by Jeffrey Jones at Canada’s national newspaper, and a similar report on the ExchangeMagazine site.

Philosopher/writer, Ayn Rand, said, "Ideas cannot be fought except by means of better ideas. The battle consists not of opposing, but of exposing; not of denouncing, but of disapproving; not of evading, but of boldly proclaiming a full consistent and radical alternative."

Update #1
Pertinent is an excerpt from the November 21st, 2014 Der Spiegel Magazin article about John Brockman, by journalist George Diez, under the title "The Eminence Grise." Mr. Brockman is an agent of top authors of science books, and editor/publisher at Edge.Org
"The great questions of the world concern scientific news. We are at the beginning of a revolution. And what we hear from the mainstream is: "Please make it go away." Thus Sprach Brockman.

Collaborative Research Provides Hope -on Two Fronts

A version of this post was published in ExchangeMagazine

Cancer breakthroughs may depend on facilitating co-operation of biologist, oncologist and physcist, says author of this Physics Today article:

http://scitation.aip.org/content/aip/magazine/physicstoday/article/67/11/10.1063/PT.3.2578

Now, if only chemists and fission physicists would bury their hatchets and collaborate on Cold Fusion research, atomic power plants and prolliferation of atomic weapons would suddenly be reduced, if not eliminated. Also, the half-life of the world's radio-active waste pile could be at least halved by LENR-type transmutation.

Freezing Lake Huron Canucks have one of the world's largest and oldest atomic complexes just upwind of them. African, Asian and North American children have the most hope for a long healthy life if present coal and nuclear electricity plants can quickly be converted to LENR reactors.

Collaborative cold fusion research and engineering could speed the needed retro-fits. But, further research and peer reviews aside, it's the installation of an Industrial Heat E-cat for its first big customer that will (not may) set the pace of deployment in Chinese and US markets.

Whether the reader is a believer or denier of man-made adverse climate change, it behoves all (for children everywhere) to push for early deployment of LENR heating and electricity generation. Let's do our part in advocating the clean and affordable solution to cleaning up the air we breathe and in eliminating the risk of more nuclear disasters.

The fence-sitters might digest an open letter sent to the Third International Panel on Climate Change -a letter composed by Mr. Gordon Docherty, B.Sc. M.Sc. MBA MBCS MCMI

So, cheer up folks. Monitor price of crude and track the latest 3-day movement here. Follow smart investors. Help spread the good news -and check back for updates.

UPdate #1
Unlike UK and US, a German mainline science publication provides a feature article on "Kalte Fusion", but does not go so far as to suggest LENR is the push-button solution to wobbly renewable power generation.
UPdate #2
An American philanthropist is rumored to be interested in funding an Italian agency to the tune of 1 billion for fusion research.
